All Royal Resorts pools are heated during the winter, from November to April. When the thermostat registers that the water temperature has fallen below 28˚C the heating system will automatically turn on. It is turned off when the water temperature returns to 28˚C.

The maximum temperature of the water in the whirlpools on the pool decks at The Royal Haciendas is 33˚C.

Is there seaweed washing up on the beaches?

Seaweed borne by ocean currents, tides and waves naturally washes up on the coast and after storms or windy days there may be more. However, in recent years, the amount of seaweed coming ashore on the beaches of Quintana Roo has been unusually large at times during the spring and summer when water temperatures are higher. Two species of pelagic or free floating Sargassum known as Common Gulfweed (Sargassum natans) and Broad-toothed Gulfweed (Sargassum fluitans) account for the landings. Similar occurrences occur throughout the Caribbean and along the Gulf coast in the United States.

It is important to note that landings occur periodically, not every day, and that not all beaches are affected.

In coordination with the Mexican Navy, marine biologists and hotels, the Mexican authorities have stepped up their beach cleaning efforts with additional brigades, machinery, floating barriers and boats to collect the seaweed.

By the fall, the amount of seaweed washing ashore declines naturally.

The Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen authorities have an ongoing beach cleaning campaign and Royal Resorts has its own program. Cleaning usually takes place early in the morning before the heat of the day. The Royal Haciendas has a tractor and sweeper to collect seaweed washing ashore. A floating barrier is also installed across the bay in front of our Riviera Maya resort and neighboring hotels at the beginning of the spring.
You can check the Royal Resorts webcams during the year to keep tabs on our beautiful beaches.

Is there a charge for using the Fitness Centers?

The use of the Fitness Center is included in the annual Club Service Fee for members at The Royal Sands, The Royal Cancun and The Royal Haciendas.

Are pets allowed at Royal Resorts?

Pets are not permitted at Royal Resorts. However, certified service dogs are welcome at our resorts. Emotional support or anxiety control animals are not permitted as they are not considered to be service dogs.

According to ADA (the Americans with Disabilities Act) and ADI (Assistance Dogs International) the definition of a service dog is the following:

A service dog is specially trained to do a job or perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability. The skills and training of the dog must be focused on helping to mitigate the effects of the owner’s disability. Service dogs are work animals, they are not pets.

Dogs whose only use is to provide comfort or emotional support are not considered to be service dogs by ADA or ADI.

  • The person must notify the resort at least five days before arrival, sending the current official documents that prove that the animal is a certified service dog and a bill of good health issued by a vet for review and authorization.
  • At check in, the guest must show the service dog’s certification and medical certificate and sign a liability letter agreeing to the policy in effect for the stay.
  • Service dogs must always be on a leash and in their working harness when they are in public areas of the resort.
  • The owner is solely responsible for the service dog’s behavior and for any damage that may be caused to the resort or injuries to others during his/her stay and for feeding the dog and cleaning up after it.
  • The resort reserves the right to enter the room at any time to carry out tasks related to the services it offers.
  • Service dogs are not permitted on the beds, sofas or chairs and any other furniture in the resort.
  • If the owner of the service dog fails to comply with any of these rules, the resort may take action depending on the type of infraction committed or damage caused.

Types of service dog

Service dogs fall into the following categories:
Guide dog - helps the blind or those who are visually impaired to go about their daily lives, giving them more freedom and mobility.
Hearing dog - helps people who are hard of hearing or completely deaf by alerting them to specific sounds.
Medical emergency service dog - helps people with a medical condition such as Lyme disease, lupus, epilepsy, and diabetes, among others, for example by reminding them to take medication or alerting others in the event of an emergency.
Mobility service dog - assists people with mobility challenges to perform tasks in their lives by fetching and carrying, retrieving dropped items, pulling a wheelchair, helping with balance and preventing falls.
Autism service dog - helps people with autism by enabling them to deal with their surroundings and perform tasks in their lives.
Psychiatric service dog - helps the person by detecting the start of a psychiatric episode, calming them, mitigating the effects and keeping them safe.

There is an exception to this rule when using International Exchange Gift Certificates, please see next question.
My relatives are going to use my week with an International Exchange Gift Certificate, will the All-Inclusive package be optional for them?

If a Royal Resorts Member exchanges their week(s) and gives it (them) to a non-member third party via a Guest Certificate, said Guest will have optional access to the REFINE All-Inclusive Package. This policy is only valid if the Royal Resorts Member uses a Royal Resorts week for the exchange. If he/she uses a week that is not one of his/her Royal Resorts membership weeks, this courtesy cannot be granted. Only one Guest Certificate per Royal Resorts membership agreement is allowed. In other words, for each week owned, one Guest Certificate can be given to a non-member who will have optional access to the REFINE All-Inclusive Package.

The REFINE all-inclusive package is mandatory for all Getaway reservations not being used by the Member and there are no exceptions.

If I lend my unit to friends and family, will they have to purchase the Refine All-inclusive package?

All guests staying in a member’s unit with or without the member being present, in other words staying as an Owner Loan, have optional access to the REFINE All-Inclusive Package. The children, spouse and parents of the member will be entitled to the Member rate.

Owner Loan forms are available through Interval Servicing. In the case of International Exchange Guest Certificates, this does not apply, please see preceding question for the corresponding rule.

If I stay at The Royal Sands, The Royal Haciendas or The Royal Cancun on an international exchange will I have to purchase the All-inclusive package?

No, as a Royal Resorts member you still have optional access to the REFINE All-Inclusive package even when staying on an international exchange.

If members acquire additional units for guests through a rental but the guests are not staying in the same unit as the member do they have optional access to the REFINE All-Inclusive package?

Members who prefer to rent with the REFINE All-Inclusive Package are able to do so at discounted rates. At the time of booking it is important that you inform the reservation agent that you are looking to rent the REFINE All Inclusive Package. *IMPORTANT NOTE: The REFINE All-Inclusive Member rate is no applicable when a member rents a unit. If a member wishes to rent, they must either rent their accommodation European Plan or with the REFINE All-Inclusive included in the rate. In both cases Members have special discounted rates.

Members who are unable to use their Royal Resorts week due to work or family commitments can use the Internal Exchange program. This offers them a way to use their exchange privileges to vacation later in the year at their home resort or at one of the other Royal Resorts in Mexico.

To get started, visit the Internal Exchange website www.exchangemyvacation.com, read the internal exchange rules and regulations, follow the instructions to deposit units and look for options. Optimized exchange searches make finding a match easier than ever. The Online Instant Match is another new feature that members can use to make their trade and get an instant confirmation.

No annual membership fee is required for the Internal Exchange program and the US$149 exchange fee is paid only when your exchange request is successfully matched and confirmed.

In order to enroll a unit or the one-bedroom suite or lock off in the internal exchange program you must be in good standing. Units that have been enrolled in The Rental Program, Resale program or an international exchange network are not eligible for enrollment in the internal exchange program.

What is the Advisory Council?

Each resort has an Advisory Board comprised of five member representatives who are in regular contact with the Management and Members.   The Advisory Council meets once a year with resort management to review operating costs and set budget guidelines for the following year. The meetings take place in the autumn and the minutes of the Advisory Council meetings are published in the following edition of Royal Resorts Life magazine and are posted in the Member’s Area on www.royalresorts.com

Advisory Council members serve a period of five years and their responsibilities include the review of financial statements, operations reports, the projected budgets for the following year and proposed Club Service Fees to be paid per interval based upon the reviewed budget for the club. They also study maintenance and fixed assets programs, proposals for new services and amenities and cost-efficiency projects, among other topics. They provide invaluable input and in the interests of the membership, they can suggest changes or for items to be postponed or cancelled.

The Advisory Council is not a Home Owners Association; they represent members of a club according to the membership program rules and regulations.

Royal Resorts Management does not select the Advisory Council representatives. Members who would like to serve on the Advisory Council and who meet the eligibility requirements listed at https://membersarea.royalresorts.com/making-your-application/ and in the Advisory Council rules (PDF document) may fill out the application form available as a downloadable PDF form and submit their resume. Each year, the most senior Advisory Council member retires and the remaining representatives review the applicants to be his/her replacement, draw up a shortlist of candidates and vote on them in a private session.

What does the annual Club Service Fee cover?

The annual Club Service Fee covers the upkeep of your villa and of the resort in general and includes the following:

  • Professional resort management
  • Maintenance
  • Replacement of furniture and appliances in the villas
  • Landscaping and gardening
  • Utilities
  • 24-hour Front Desk

The Club Service Fee is based upon the resort’s total operating costs pro-rated among 51 vacation intervals per villa. The money levied from the Club Service Fee is used to keep the resort at five-star standards.

Services not covered by the Club Service Fee

Some services that many Members believe are included in the Club Service Fee are in fact part of resort businesses or sales and marketing programs. They include the Concierge Desk and Service, Restaurants and bars; Spa; Tour desk; The Royal Market; the use of the Fitness Center for The Royal Islander members and events such as the Welcome Party, weekly Cocktail and Taco Party, which are activities organized and sponsored by the Sales and Marketing department.

Which resort services are not covered by the Club Service Fee?

Some services are not covered by the annual Club Service Fee and are independent resort businesses with their own budgets. They include restaurants and bars, the Spa, tour desk, Royal Market and the gift shops.

Also not covered by the Club Service Fee are Concierge Service and events such as the Welcome Party, weekly Cocktail and Taco Party (currently unavailable), which are activities organized and sponsored by the Sales and Marketing department.

Does our annual Club Service Fee pay for weekly events such as the Welcome Party or Taco Party?

No. It does not. Your annual Club Service Fee is not used to pay for the Taco Party, Welcome Party, Cocktail Party and other such events. These complimentary events are offered and sponsored by the Marketing & Sales department. They are not included in the Resort operating budget. During the COVID 19 pandemic they were suspended and have not been reactivated yet.

Does the annual Club Service Fee subsidize the REFINE All-Inclusive package in any way?

The annual Club Service Fee paid by members does not subsidize the REFINE All-Inclusive package at The Royal Sands, The Royal Cancun and The Royal Haciendas in any way whatsoever. The REFINE All-Inclusive program has a separate operating budget and pays a resort fee of US$2.50 per All-Inclusive guest per day to Resort Operations to cover extra expenses generated by the program such as the evening turndown service and housekeeping service on Sundays, laundry (bathrobes, linens and towels). The resort also receives a Club Service Fee for the rental of each villa to cover the services included in the annual dues.
