This season, we are experiencing an unprecedented rate of beach erosion at The Royal Haciendas, something that is also occurring in other parts of Playa del Carmen and along some exposed stretches of the Riviera Maya coast. It is likely to be due to a combination of factors such as strong winds, climate change, changing currents and damage to offshore reefs, among others, although oceanographers and the authorities have yet to reach a consensus on the cause. Erosion occurs naturally from season to season and the beach recovers over time, however this year this has not been the case for the beach in Phase II at our resort.
Beach restoration projects require environmental impact studies and government permits and it takes time – up to a year– to get all the required paperwork. The Royal Haciendas Management is evaluating other options. Local environmental studies are being carried out along the beachfront at The Royal Haciendas and based on the results, permits, feasibility and costs of the proposals, Management will determine the most appropriate course of action and will share further information as it becomes available.
Fortunately, the beach in Phase I is in great shape. So if you are visiting The Royal Haciendas soon for a relaxing Riviera Maya vacation, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful beach on that side of the resort.
We appreciate your support.
