Update on Beach Erosion at The Royal Haciendas
We would like to give you an update on the beach restoration program at The Royal Haciendas.
Like other beaches in the Playa del Carmen area, Moxche Bay is being impacted by coastal erosion. A combination of factors such as strong winds, climate change, changing currents and wind patterns and damage to offshore reefs is causing this, in addition to the impact of Hurricanes Helen and Beryl in 2024.
The first step in any beach recovery program is for coastal erosion experts to carry out detailed studies of the affected area. We have been consulting with three US and Mexican companies with ample experience in the field and in beach restoration projects. Based upon their findings and the proposals and recommendations they presented, in the coming months we will be taking steps to protect La Palapa del Sol restaurant and the shoreline in front of the north building, as a short-term solution to stabilize the rate of erosion and start building the beach back.
This action will take approximately eight weeks. During this time, the north beach will be closed for the safety of members and guests.
Extra sun loungers and chairs will be available in pool areas for members and guests to use.
Additionally, the long-term plan is to participate with other Corasol resorts in a comprehensive beach restoration project to protect the shoreline of the bay. The goal is to choose an option that will help replenish dune vegetation, restore the beach, protect marine flora and fauna, and over time contribute to the regeneration of offshore reefs in the bay. This second project would take between two to four years or longer to complete and is in the consultation phase.
We hope that you find this update useful.
