COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 tests required for travel available at Royal Resorts

Starting on January 26, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will require a negative COVID-19 test for passengers flying into the United States. (This applies even if their final destination is another country but they are on a connecting flight, which first enters the United States.)

In an effort to provide the best and most convenient options for our members and guests, Royal Resorts will offer free antigen swab testing for all members and guests starting January 23.  This measure was presented and approved by your Advisory Council Members and Royal Resorts Management.  Testing will be funded by each resort’s cash reserves.

Tests will be available onsite, through certified independent laboratories, at no cost starting January 23 at The Royal Sands and The Royal Haciendas.  It is important to note that free testing is exclusively for Royal Resorts members and guests, is one-time only and  available to those who have no symptoms.  Results are available in 24 hours.  Royal Resorts is not responsible for the results.

Reservations are required for onsite testing.

If you are staying at Royal Resorts, click here to make reservations for COVID-19 tests.  You will receive an email from the laboratory confirming the day and time.

If you are staying at Grand Residences, please contact the Front Desk or Concierge upon arrival to make arrangements for testing.

Onsite testing will be conducted in the Gran Salon at Hacienda Sisal at The Royal Sands for guests of all Royal Resorts in Cancun, at the former Real Estate Sales Location right below the Tennis Courts at The Royal Haciendas and the business center in the lobby of Grand Residences.

Onsite testing is only available for guests who have no symptoms.  If you have symptoms, you must contact the Front Desk or the Medical Service to make arrangements for in-room testing.

Countries requiring PCR testing

Canada and the UK now require all inbound travelers to show documentation of a negative laboratory test result to the airline prior to boarding their flight. The test must be performed using a COVID-19 molecular polymerase chain reaction test (PCR test) within 72 hours of their scheduled departure for Canada or the United Kingdom.

Travelers bound for Canada who receive a negative test result and are authorized to enter Canada must still complete the full, mandatory 14-day quarantine. In the case of the United Kingdom all inbound passengers must fill in a passenger locator form and self-isolate for 10 days regardless of the test result.

If your country requires a PCR test, this is also available onsite through certified independent laboratories, for a fee of US$100 in Cancun and The Royal Haciendas or US$110 at Grand Residences.

Reservations are required for onsite testing.

Beware of beach and street vendors
Buying tours from vendors on the beach, streets or in malls is not recommended. The salesman may seem pleasant enough and the price attractive but it simply isn’t worth it.
Street vendors are unlicensed agents, often operating without official permits or insurance. They do not offer the quality products or the variety of options that your in-house travel agency offers and they won’t be able to help you plan a full sightseeing itinerary, taking care of every detail.
The tours that they sell may be substandard with lax health and safety rules putting you and your family at risk.
As in resort destinations throughout the world, there have been cases of street vendors involved in scams, selling non-existent services and disappearing with their clients’ money. A tour that looked like a bargain may turn out to be an expensive loss if you never hear from the agent again. If you do have a problem with a tour you booked through a beach vendor, be aware that as freelance operators they are difficult to track down and may be unwilling or unable to make changes or reimburse you. If this happens there is very little that your resort can do to help you.

Why take the risk when you have an in-house travel agency to take care of all your travel needs? When looking for tours, always go for reliability and experience, choose Thomas More Travel.

COVID-19 tests required for US, Canadian and United Kingdom travelers

COVID-19 tests required for US, Canadian and United Kingdom travelers

As another measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and other countries are now requiring a negative COVID-19 test for all inbound travelers. The test must be performed 72 hours prior to departure and documentation of the test results presented to the airline (written or electronic copy).

In the case of the United States, these new rules are effective from January 26 and apply for all international passengers and US citizens returning home. (This applies even if their final destination is another country but they are on a connecting flight, which first enters the United States.) The test required is the nasal swab (viral antigen test or nucleic acid amplification test). Children aged two and older must also be tested.

Travelers who have been infected with COVID-19 and have recovered during the last three months must show proof of the positive test result and documentation of recovery from a licensed healthcare provider giving them clearance to travel.

There are other details for travelers including an Attestation, for full information we recommend that you visit the CDC website.  https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/fr-proof-negative-test.html

Canada and the United Kingdom recently introduced new rules requiring that all arriving passengers show proof of a negative COVID-19 result using a COVID-19 molecular polymerase chain reaction test (PCR test). In the case of Canada, this new ruling also applies for children over the age of five.

Anyone who receives a negative test result and is authorized to travel must still complete the mandatory quarantine period upon arrival at their final destination. In the United States this is seven days and in Canada 14 days. In the case of the United Kingdom all inbound passengers must fill in a passenger locator form and self-isolate for 10 days regardless of the test result.

COVID-19 tests available at Royal Resorts

In order to help you comply with this new travel rule for your return home, for your safety and convenience you will be able to get a COVID-19 test at Royal Resorts.

Starting on January 23, independent and authorized medical personnel will be carrying out the antigen nasal swab test in Gran Salon Sisal next to Hacienda Sisal Restaurant. The test is available Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $700 pesos per person if paid with Visa, Mastercard or American Express or $750 via PayPal and test results will be ready within 24 hours.

PCR tests will also be available for Canadian and UK travelers for a cost of US$100 per person.

Please note that the aforementioned prices are exclusively for Royal Resorts members and guests and that tests will be performed as long as they are asymptomatic.

Guests showing symptoms must remain in their villa or room and follow the doctor’s instructions.

If you are staying at The Royal Haciendas

The antigen nasal swab test will be available at your resort and costs $1,000 pesos, results are available within 24 hours.

At the Royal Haciendas the cost of the PCR test is $2,648 pesos and results are ready in 24 hours. Personnel from the Laclicsa laboratory will perform the test at the resort.

In Memoriam

It is with great sadness that we share news of the loss of a much-loved member of our Royal Resorts family.

Tyrone Ukaegbo Magaña

Originally from Dallas, Tyrone Ukaegbo joined Royal Resorts in 2003 and worked hard over the years to become one of the leading sales executives. At the time of his passing he was an Assistant Manager at Grand Residences. A gentle soul, Tyrone will be remembered for his intelligence, kindness and compassion. Everyone loved and respected him and he will be greatly missed.

Some of Tyrone’s workmates added their own tributes:

Words cannot express how sorry we are for the loss of Tyrone. God must have needed another angel.

Tyrone was loved and respected by all his coworkers and all the owners at Grand Residences. He has left us too soon. Tyrone will be greatly missed, may he rest in peace.

Catherine Duda

Tyrone, thank you for your friendship, your charisma, generosity, intelligence and joy. Rest in peace. I am going to miss you.

Claudia Ramirez

For me he wasn’t just a great man but a mighty heart, he was my friend. May he rest in peace.

Marcela Azcorra Trejo

Because when I needed you, you were there, you listened to me, you advised me, you protected me, you shared, you encouraged me, you believed in me, you accepted me, you fulfilled me, we had fun together, always wise and always generous, you went ahead in everything and again went ahead. Wait for me there in Valhalla so we can have some Guinness together and cry with laughter turning to see all the stupid things we did here… you will always be my soul brother.

Alejandro “Patrick” García

Tyrone was a friend before anything else; I had the fortune to work with him for many years, I have known him since he started working at Royal Resorts, always with the best attitude and a great personality, we shared many great moments and he will live forever in my memory. We lost an incredible person and for sure we are all going to miss him.

Gerardo Flores

Tye, you were and will always be a part of the Royal Resorts family; you will always be in my heart.

Rosalía Cantú

Ty, you won’t be able to read this but fortunately it is something I was able to tell you myself.

Thank you for your friendship and your love for my family and me.

You are one of the greatest people that I have ever known, so generous, always ready to help others.

I can’t remember a single moment when I didn’t have a good time with you (unless it was when we were roomies and your snores kept me awake!)

Thank you for your unstinting support when I was at my lowest ebb, financially and emotionally. I’m going to miss you so much. I’ll miss all those moments when we laughed so much that we cried, and I know that we will meet again for one more laugh!

Jorge López

Tyrone will be greatly missed. He was not only a great asset to Royal Resorts, but a wonderful friend, human being, son and brother.  He seemed tough on the outside but he had one of the warmest hearts I’ve ever known. Always willing to help, always being positive, and he made everyone around him laugh with the funniest jokes.  We will keep him in our hearts forever.

Paola Shouse

All of us at Royal Resorts will treasure our memories of Tyrone. We are sure that you will want to join us in sending your thoughts and prayers to his family and friends during this difficult time.

Let’s Protect Each Other: Wear a Face Mask

We are in this together and we can all help slow the spread of COVID-19 by following hygiene recommendations such as frequent hand washing and social distancing and by using face coverings. Masks reduce the dispersion of droplets when you sneeze or cough and if we all wear one we can protect each other.

At Royal Resorts, all our staff wear face masks and we ask that all our members and guests use them too when indoors and in busy public areas of our resorts. The use of face masks is mandatory in the Activity Center, Kids Club, Spa, Royal Market and Paloma Gift Shop, in elevators and on board the vans used for resort and airport transfers, the inter-resort shuttle and tour buses. Masks should be worn when entering restaurants and bars and until you are seated and the waiter brings your drinks and food.

Use of masks is now mandatory in public in Cancun, fines may apply for non-compliance
The Cancun municipal government recently passed legislation making the use of face masks mandatory in public for residents and for visitors. The police are now enforcing the new law and there are penalties for infractions. Fines may be given for not wearing a mask and if the fine is not paid the offender may face detention for 36 hours.

A similar law is now in effect in Tulum municipal district and police have detained several people for not wearing a face mask.
